The Greatest Trick the Devil ever pulled

Description

Now, who would have the power to commit such a heinous treachery...
(NMM: Did you not recall the Legend?)
...but a trusted one of their own Ilk, outwardly sweet, but inside the maker of all darkness...
(NMM: Did you not see the signs?!)
...to be later expelled from paradise, not by God or Eru, but a lesser Valar? A lesser ANGEL?
(...she is definitely the St. Michael of the group...)
(Ah, riiiight... Wait, we're still talking about Chrysalis, right?)
So, if Equestria contains such a character, who is someone who's dearest to their lord, as Lucifer was to God before the war.... FAMILY?
And would need to know if forced to face the Elements of Harmony, they would have no effect?
(If the Elements of Harmony could rid Luna of her evil instantly...)
(TS: I know who you are!)
(... then why did she have to spend 1000 years on the moon?)
Someone who would have extensive knowledge of the Castle and the caves beneath it?
(TS: You're the mare in the moon!)
...and, who could that be?
(TS: NIGHTMARE MOON!)
Perhaps, a shape shifter?

"The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled...

Was convince the world SHE DIDN'T EXIST."

And then, like that...
She's gone...

BronyCurious brought up a great headcanon, where Luna was Chrysalis, explaining where she had been the whole episode. He connected the possible plot line (That would be amazing if canon) with The Silmarillion by J. R. R. Tolkien. He connected Luna with the character Melrok, the main antagonist, who fools the entire kingdom by pretending to have repented, when really he was waiting for the right moment to strike. He seemed that the whole idea of becoming Chrysalis was a test run for a real invasion - seeing if she could defeat Canterlot's defenses and Princess Celestia herself - without ever having to reveal her identity.
His theory blew my mind, honestly. I nearly screamed. I feel the possibility that this could actually be what the writers were going for is cemented in the next Season, Season 3. I think Celestia could sense the evil in Luna and knew she would be unable to defeat her, pushing forward Twilight's transformation into an Alicorn. Throughout the first episode, Luna seems to express very negative emotions towards both Twilight and Celestia, and actually goes out of her way to call Celestia out on the fact that she feels Twilight shouldn't have to do this.

But, I dunno.
Still, writers, if you're seeing this, come on. Please?

I don't know if the new animation sequence is fooling us or not (with the inclusion of Luna) but that is STILL a really great idea. Since it's still technically a kids show it probably won't happen, but still. GREAT idea by those two.
